Dharma Rakshana Samiti

We have inherited a rich culture and heritage from our ancestors, with various cultural forms that convey profound messages on spirituality and Dharma, the Cosmic ethics. Swami Dayananda Saraswati recognized that over time, certain distortions and changes inevitably occur when cultural forms are passed down through generations. He wisely observed:

"Any profound message has to be rediscovered by every age by itself. A form (cultural form) without spirit is a carcass (dead body), and spirit without form is a ghost."

Swamiji emphasized the need to redefine our cultural forms, preserving the appropriate messages to safeguard our spiritual culture and ensure it is passed on to future generations. He also made an insightful observation:

"Without protecting Dharmi (one who follows Dharma), we cannot protect Dharma."

With this foresight, Swamiji established the Dharma Rakshana Samithi Trust (DRST), a public charitable trust aimed at assisting the economically underprivileged, particularly in rural areas. He expressed:

"Those who are living in rural areas are not different from us. Their form of worship is our form of worship. We have to tell them ‘we are with them’ and we have to teach certain simple things to maintain cleanliness (hygiene) and give them our culture."

Swamiji further emphasized the true meaning of compassion:

"Religion should evoke human compassion and not disturb it."

This profound vision of Swamiji motivated DRST to:

  • Bring awareness among people through education, aiding their economic upliftment while promoting cherished values.
  • Promote the welfare of women by raising awareness about government schemes via self-help groups.
  • Foster equality by combating gender discrimination.
  • Advocate for healthy living through hygiene and cleanliness education among the underprivileged.
  • Promote the social well-being of people.

Our Vision

The vision of Dharma Rakshana Samiti is to raise awareness about Bharateeya culture and work towards its preservation.

Our Mission

The mission of Dharma Rakshana Samiti is to promote and uphold Bharateeya values among all citizens, with a particular emphasis on rural communities.

Swami Vivekananda, while discussing culture, expounded:

"Teach the masses in the vernaculars, give them ideas; they will get information, but something more is necessary; give them culture. Until you give them that, there can be no permanence in the raised condition of the masses."
